Go Green!

"Go Green!" is more than the Michigan state motto...it is the way of the future. But just what does it mean?

It is a catch phrase for:

• Being Environmentally Conscious - caring about the environment
• Sustainability - providing for the needs of the present without depleting resources or harming nature for the future
• "Eco-Friendly" - having little or no impact on the natural ecosystem

It is our inheritance and our responsibility to always be conscious of the carbon footprint we are creating every day through the resources we use or abuse. Protection of our air, water and land is an important asset that must be preserved for our children, grandchildren and the future of our planet. What are some ways that we can contribute to this?

• Turn off unused lights
• Combine errands for fewer trips in our cars
• Use water reasonably
• Dispose of harmful chemicals, solvents, paints, batteries and fertilizers in a responsible manner
• Recycle clothing, paper, plastics and metal
• Use only environmentally friendly (organic) fertilizers on lawns and gardens
• Insulate your home
• Install new energy efficient windows and siding
• Unplug cell phone battery chargers when not in use
• Unplug appliances when not in use
• Update appliances to Energy Star rated appliances
• Update heating and cooling units to Energy Star rated units*

*Geothermal units are 300-400% efficient - they are GREEN rated.
